Whether through faith, a higher purpose, or even things like achieving greatness or having kids, our desire to achieve eternity is manifested in various ways as humans.
Nietzsche depicts desire as our strongest feeling as humans, it can even withstand pain. Because of how strong desire is, Nietzsche says that “Desire wants eternity”.
