studio project

Visualizing human emotional dependence on smartphones.

intro

the swiss army knife of the modern age

Smartphones are like pocket knives, but instead of its functionalities being tools that help you cut, tinker, and repair, its functionalities are reflective of the broad spectrum of human desire.

This is not natural. We are simulating the fulfillment of these desires, such as social connection, preparedness, efficiency, intellectual, etc.

the BRIEF

Design an icon set for your phone's home screen.

CONSTRAINTS

  • Do not pay attention to pre-existing brand guidlines.

  • Do pay attention to connotation, emotion, etc.

the PROBLEM

Smartphones are sucking the human desire out of us. We are overly dependent on our phones to fulfill these desires that we forget how to truly do so.

DESIGN INTENT

Reflect the absurdity of our dependence on smartphones by using emotional & symbolic imagery.

my role

This was a solo studio project, I was the sole designer.
